Symptom

You have installed Wordpress from the application archive, but you now want to completely remove the installation, for example, to start over or to install another program.

Cause

If you do not completely remove the previous installation, reinstalling WordPress or other programs may fail or may not be written to the desired directory.

Solution

Perform all four steps A, B, C, and D to completely remove Wordpress:

A) Remove Wordpress and the link between Wordpress and the webspace control panel using the Wordpress Toolkit as follows:

1. Log in to the webspace control panel.

2. Select the "Websites & Domains" tab.

3. In the domain where Wordpress has been installed, click on the name of the Wordpress website between the Wordpress logo and the "Login" button of the Wordpress instance. This takes you to a "Properties" page of the Wordpress installation.

4. Click on the "Remove" icon.

B) Delete remaining files from the document root directory.

Occasionally, and depending on the particular installation and any additional files created, files or directories will remain on the site. Delete the remaining files from the document root directory. Use either an FTP program or the file manager in the webspace control panel or log in to the server via SSH (Bitpalace Business Booster only) and delete the contents of the document root with the Linux rm command.

C) Delete any remaining database of this installation.

Make sure that the database of the website has been deleted. Click on "Databases" and check that the database is missing. If it still exists, click on the "Remove" icon to delete it. It is possible that there are other databases in your webspace that are used by other domains. Do not delete such databases here.

D) Delete the "hidden" directories ".pki" and ".wp-cli" and their content.

To do this, use either an FTP program or the file manager in the webspace control panel or log in to the server via SSH (Bitpalace Business Booster only) and delete the ".pki" and ".wp-cli Directories with the Linux rm -R command.
